Approved
Clear, front-facing photo. Full face visible, one person only.
Head coverings are fine
Accepted as long as your eyes, nose and mouth are fully visible.
Too far
Move closer — your face should fill the frame.
Turned sideways
Look straight at the camera.
Eyes not visible
Remove sunglasses or anything covering your eyes.
No beanies
Fashion headwear comes off for the badge photo — religious coverings are fine.
No caps
The brim shadows your face — take it off for the photo.
A photo of a photo
Don’t re-photograph a print or a screen — upload the original.
Cropped from a document
Don’t crop the picture out of your passport — take a fresh photo.
Stand against a plain wall or flat surface — not in open space. Don’t wear a white top against a white background. Get close: head and shoulders only, with a little space above your hair. Face straight to the camera. No caps or beanies, and no sunglasses.
A head covering is fine — we only need your face clearly visible, with nothing over your eyes, nose or mouth.
Good full page
The whole page, flat and sharp — the two code lines are what we read.
Corner hidden
The end of the code lines is out of frame — every character matters.
Blurred, low quality
The text can’t be read — hold steady and retake.
Finger hides information
Hold the passport by its edges — nothing over the page.
Flash glare
Reflections wash out the text — turn the flash off.
Tilted
Lay it flat and shoot from directly above.
A photo of a screen
Don’t photograph your passport on another screen — use the document itself.
People crop to the half a human reads. The two code lines at the bottom are the half a machine reads — keep them fully in the photo.
